Pathways Through Dementia is a charity, which provides free legal and financial                                                information to support people living with dementia.

Due to the age demographic, it is likely that dementia is an issue which affects                                                  many people from our churches.

The pandemic restrictions are difficult for all of us, yet this period may cause                                                      particular challenges for carers of people with dementia, who have probably seen their usual respite services cut (e.g. day centres, support workers or care home respite breaks for the person with dementia etc) and who may now be managing with less support than usual.  This may result in many carers being adversely affected by stress during the pandemic.  We also learnt from our November Safeguarding Adults webinar that the pandemic has led to a marked increase in cases of financial abuse and self-neglect, as well as domestic abuse.  Due to the age demographic, it is likely that dementia is an issue which affects many people from our churches.

Pathways Through Dementia is a charity, which provides free legal and financial information to support people living with dementia. The focus is on helping people to unravel the legalities of the dementia journey such as paying for care, managing finances and welfare benefits. Pathways Through Dementia do this through a one-to-one telephone advice line and also through providing organisations with free interactive information sessions (including via Zoom) with the chance for Q&As.

If you are interested in arranging a free session for your District or even a particular Circuit or Church, please email swilcox@pathwaysthroughdementia.org or telephone 020 3405 5940 and leave a message.  This might be something individual churches or Circuits may also be interested in setting up, so please circulate this information to your safeguarding networks.

MWiB Zoom Inauguration Service

In September, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly District Methodist Women in Britain held their inauguration service to welcome the Rev'd Cathy Arscott as their new president. During their worship-filled service of fellowship, a gift was also shown to be presented to the outgoing president Jill Nute which can be seen below in the later presentation to Jill. To read the wonderful article written all about it, click on the button below.

Vice-President Carolyn Lawrence's visit to the district

It was wonderful to have the Vice-President of the Methodist Conference here in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly in October 2020. Although the visit looked somewhat different to what was planned, it was a blessing to have Carolyn with us sharing in Bible Study over Zoom, and lovely to have her preaching at our very own Gwennap Pit. This was enjoyed by those who were able to attend the service. Below are a selection of photos from her time with us, and especially note the wonderful pasty bag!

Welcome to our new District Administrator

We are pleased to welcome Georgia Jenkin as our new District Administrator. Here is a little introduction from Georgia herself:

It is an absolute blessing to be able to say a big hello from myself, as I start this new role as the District Administrator.

My name is Georgia Jenkin, and I grew up with my family in the St Austell circuit. I was a part of the youth work across the circuit and district, and also trained as a local preacher as a teenager. After studying Theology at Cliff College, I went on to work for churches in Sheffield and Hampshire. I have been involved in church work and leadership in many different ways, from children's and youth work, to preaching, administrative work and dealing with safeguarding.

Having now returned to Cornwall with my husband and our daughter, I am so excited for this new adventure God has in store for us as a family. I am so looking forward to getting to know you all in Methodist Church here in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
